Local Interest

Mention Cheshire to many people and it conjures up a picture of green grass and dairy farming, which there is but there is so much more.

Salt brought the Romans and evidence can be found in Middlewich although most immediately think of Chester when talking about the Romans in Cheshire.

The need to move salt and other goods around the country brought the canals and it is difficult not to talk about Middlewich without mentioning these important highways from years gone by. Of course the canal is still important today bringing tourists and visitors to the annual boat festival.

Salt has been the reason that many industrial companies were based in the area, none bigger than Brunner Mond which is better known to many as ICI. There has been and still is many more industries based in the region but there is still plenty of beautiful countryside to enjoy.

In these pages we will be adding articles that may we hope will be of interest to potential visitors to Middlewich and especially The Narrowboat.

See the index to the left for articles added.

If you have articles or anecdotes that you think may be of interest, please email or post them to us and we will consider them for inclusion.
